Haiku for the week

Clean air and clear sky
Its blueness hurts our tired eyes
Wind from the cold north

The toxic air we've been suffering - filled with grit and sand and construction debris and smoke - for most of the past six or seven weeks is suddenly scoured clean by a brisk wind out of the north. Unfortunately, that also gives us ten degrees of windchill, so it's painful to go outside. Swings and roundabouts.

I was going to go shopping for bookshelves today, but my resolve is faltering...

Perfect example of some redundancy here and at the barstool.... seriously, condense before contemplating quitting again.

Both seasonal observations on Beijing, but one on how the wind is specifically impacting my life today, and the other on how the low temperatures impact the whole city, and particularly the nightlife scene, over the coming two or three months. So, actually, no overlap at all, you old grouch.

Skip the haiku if they bore you. They are, in their nature, among the most ephemeral and trivial of my posts. But sometimes I need an excuse to get out of bed in the morning.

bah, humbug!

it's too windy, it's too cold...

I've deduced I'm still a few years younger than you kind sir, and quite a bit less grouchy!

carry on then.
