Paper Republic

I haven't done one of my plugs for Friends Doing Business in China for a while, but since the Frankfurt Book Fair has just opened, this seems an especially appropriate moment to give a long overdue shout-out to Paper Republic, a collective of young translators who run a literary blog aiming to promote contemporary Chinese fiction and poetry (the rare good stuff, which all too seldom finds an overseas audience because of the publishing world's reluctance to invest in literary translation).  The site has lots of translated extracts from the contributors' favourite authors, news, occasional interviews, and a discussion forum.

Two of the team are in Frankfurt for the next fortnight, peddling a selection of pet projects - 7 good books in search of a publisher (you can download an outline of them here).  Best of luck to them.

If you are curious about the state of literature in China today, I do recommend you to go and have a wander around their website for a while.
