Why I like living here

For all of my occasional grumping and griping, I do absolutely love living in Beijing.

I am particularly fortunate to live in such a great area, one of the nicest neighbourhoods in the city. The old Bell Tower (above), the city's most beautiful building, is only a 10-minute walk away. And, since it is such a dazzlingly lovely day today, I think I'll take a stroll down that way right now.

Beijing is cold but I like where I'm living/I take strolls to the bell tower oft of an evening.

btw i have a question. You mentioned in one of your posts an occasion when you walked into a boozer with a mate of yours and went off on a skit on Dover Beach..."the pub is quiet tonight etc." But I can't find which one it was now. Ta.

I think you must be referring to the Barstool post on Two Kinds Of Drunk, Kim.

I thought you were in Dalian. Pretty nippy up there too at this time of the year, surely? And you have your own Bell Tower?

Thank you, that's the one.

And I was echoing your post with a couple of adapted lines from Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat"...."New York is cold but I like where I'm living/There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening". Don't know why but what you wrote reminded me of those lines.

You not a Cohen fan then? He is my number one "unsuitable role model"!

Aha. Sorry. Brain a bit slow first thing in the morning.

I am aware of Mr Cohen, but my admiration is only lukewarm. I am a wanted man in Canada for questioning his divinity.

I've got a couple of 'Best of...' CDs somewhere. I may dig them out now.
