List of the Month - why I love Tom Waits

This could have ended up being a very long list..... but I have confined it to the first dozen examples that sprang to mind. Please share your favourites in the comments.

My Favourite Tom Waits Lyrics

Napoleon is weeping in a carnival saloon
His invisible fiancée's in the mirror

The newspapers were fooling
And the ashtrays have retired

Money's just something you throw off the back of a train
Got a head full of lightning and a hat full of rain

Well, go ahead, call the cops
You don't meet nice girls in coffee shops

The places that I'm dreaming of
Do they dream only of me?

Just like before the band starts to play,
They always play our favorite tune...

Got a bad liver and a broken heart
Yes, I've drunk me a river since you tore me apart

Get down off that cross
We need the wood

A solitary sailor spends the facts of his life
Like small change on strangers

I'd love to go drowning, and to stay and stay
But the ocean doesn't want me today

It must have been a train that took me away from here
But a train can't bring me home

The wind is making speeches
And the rain sounds like a round of applause

Now it's closing time, the music's fading out
Last call for drinks, I'll have another stout.

I'll never kiss your lips again,
or break your heart, as I say goodbye I'll say goodbye

And manslaughter dragnets and the ghosts that sell memories,
They want a piece of the action anyhow

Caren, I didn't realise you were such a big Tom Waits fan.

Good additions to the list.
