Um, except that this is NOT 'out of sight'.
One of those Chinese hotels I stayed in recently had a pair of light wells in the middle of the building, on either side of the main corridor. They were open to the elements, but this did not discourage the management from making use of this space for storage.
This is another of those little details that might, I suggest, prevent any Chinese hotel from meriting a star under Western hotel rating systems.
