Bon mot for the week

"Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will."

James Stephens  (1882-1950)

Thanks for the Wikipedia link; before I commented, I wanted to be sure it was the same James Stephens I was thinking of -- and wasn't confident that the line came from that book.

I love The Crock of Gold; loved it from the first sentence. (I've not read anything else he wrote, but that one book -- well, if I'd left a legacy like that, I'd have been very happy to look back on my life.) It was on the syllabus for a college course in fantasy and SF. When the semester finished, I couldn't imagine why I'd never before heard of half the books I'd just read (answer: I wasn't as well-read as I thought I was!). The Crock of Gold was at the top of the list.

Thanks for the recommendation. Heard of it, never read it.

It seems to be accessibly brief. I'll have to try and read it online.

Total bollocks I'm afraid.

The book or the quote?

Quote - and for an example as to why, see your post before this one.
