Yes, today is International Women's Day.
Sanba, 3/8, is quite a big deal here in China, but I'm not convinced that the high-sounding egalitarian ideals of Maoist Socialism have really done very much to erode generations of patriarchal disdain; this always seems like a profoundly sexist country to me (how many women in the Politburo? that's right!). Although we're not doing very much better in the West.
