An incredible journey

New blog-friend and commenter Cedra Wood is a talented painter. She's very excited about having an opportunity to go on an amazing field trip to Australia this summer with some fellow New Mexico artists - but she could use a little help with the travel expenses.  Please check out the great video about her work below - and follow this link to her Kickstarter appeal if you'd like to contribute something.  You can find more examples of her work on her blog, Lights All Askew In The Heavens.

Huzzah! Thank you, Froog!

(And have you seen how far the pledges have come? Absolutely unreal.)

And all down to me, of course.

No, I think not.

Congratulations. I don't know what the rule is on exceeding quota - can you keep it all, or are you supposed to give the surplus back to your contributors on a pro rata basis??

Thank you--I'm very happy! And sort of touched and amazed.

The general rule for donations above and beyond the call appears to be the understanding that it'll be used toward the project in a responsible way. In my case, it will most likely be used later to ship finished work to NSW for a group exhibition, and/or covering supplies and gallery fees for a local solo exhibition.

I love Kickstarter. And I love how Cedra has enriched your mix of commenters. I'm in. :)

CW is a very smart lady, and very talented. I love what she does with violins!

I pointed her in the direction of your blog the other week, JES, to glean some tips or generalised 'encouragement' about using Kickstarter, so you can claim a little of the credit.

I think you'll like her response to having exceeded her target inside 4 days:
What can be done to indicate a brain's further amazement, once it's been blown? Maybe the bits of cerebral matter get collected in a wheelbarrow, put in an air-tight capsule, have small prayers said over them in seven languages, and then get shot into space.

That's a great comment.

And, taken literally, would make a hell of a Kickstarter project.

I did visit her blog a few times. (Highly literate, wot?) But it coincided with the bloggish lockdown at work, preventing me from commenting, and I'd just feel like a mooch if I'd continued to hang around. (It's bad enough that I have to feel that way about my REGULAR haunts.) So I haven't been back.

(And in case you're wondering: this week they're "upgrading" the filtering software at work. Apparently this requires them to set the rulebase back to zero, so until they catch up, recreating their database from scratch, I may be able to sneak in a few times!)
