Still grappling with the censors

I have managed only very intermittent access to my blogs - or to the Internet at all - over the past 8 or 10 days. I fear the crapness of my computer and my Internet connection may be as much or more to blame than the tiresome meddling of the censorious knob-twiddlers down at Kafka Central: I tend to be able to function Webwise late at night or early in the morning, but not during "working hours".

I may now have found a way round this.

New computer? Expensive VPN? Blogging via e-mail? Staying up until 2am every night? Place your bets.

Eventually it will probably be a little of each of these. For now, mostly the latter.

I simply use a software called "freegate 自由门" & "wujie 无界" to cross the GFW.

These 2 softwares are provided by FaLunGong. Though I'm not a fan of FLG,it really did some thing good and much more better than those anti-CCP groups overseas which only know how to suck money.

Thanks for the tips, Kirby. Although I fear comments of this kind could get me in even more trouble with the censors here!

I guess you can only access the downloads for these software packages if you already have a way of getting past the GFW? I never manage to find anything related to the FLG unless I'm on a very robust proxy.

I'll have to look into this a bit further - maybe when I go back to the UK this summer.

For now, I seem to be managing to keep functioning, just about. It is mostly a problem with my computer/connection speed that makes Tor very unreliable.

Actually, though the censorship is hard, you can still download those "cross-wall" softwares without getting past the GFW. You need to do a lot of search work. It's lucky that there are hundreds of websites providing related links.(Only for downloading those softwares)

Censors are very sensitive to FLG, but less sensitive to those softwares(though some of them are provided by FLG).

I am using "freegate6.83" right now and you can find it here:

Unzip it and run the "fg683p.exe",wait for a few seconds. If it work,an IE window will be automatically opened and GFW is fucked in this particular window.

Freegate works on Windows machines, but I don't like the idea of putting anything from FLG on my computer; I trust those guys about as far as I can spit them. Just shell out for a VPN; it's incredibly fast and it always works.

Thanks again, Kirby.

As The Weeble suggests, I am a wee bit nervous of trojans with downloads coming from a source like that.

Anyway, my main problem at the moment is that my computer is almost completely out of working memory space, and I fear any further downloads might snarl it up completely. I'm even refusing updates on my existing programs.

Thanks again for the link, though. I hope other readers will try this Freegate software and let us know how they get on with it.
