Ennui

The Chinese New Year firework fiesta on Sunday night was really quite exhilarating. I had a fabulous time wandering the streets of my neighbourhood in the midst of all the whizz-bang-pop-pop and taking vicarious enjoyment from the exuberance of the local people's celebrations.

But now..... it just limps on and on and on in exactly the same vein..... for another two weeks.

No sense of proportion, the Chinese.

Taiwan trip still apparently on, but likely postponed...

Mixed news!

The very end of March is absolutely the best time to visit, if there's any way you can swing it: sunny but not too hot, and the trees heavy with blossom. Most of April and May is quite nice, too. It can start getting sodding hot sometimes, but there's not usually any humidity until June. Then again, you're probably inured to that by now, anyway.

There are direct flights from the mainland during this holiday, but I still don't know if that includes a Beijing-Taipei route. And it sounds like it's still just a temporary arrangement. If it proves too impractical, maybe we could hook up in HK/Macau instead.

I wish I could set when the trip is. Unfortunately it is outside my control. Will keep you in the loop.
