We were without Blogspot this morning.
Perhaps this was just a glitch - or the dreaded "routine maintenance" (hmm, yet another possible band name) - with the Blogspot servers; but I couldn't help thinking that it was a China-specific problem, a reimposition of the Net censorship regime we have suffered here for most of the last few years, which was only grudgingly relaxed over the summer in deference to the promptings of the IOC.
It's always swings-and-roundabouts with this cockeyed government: it's just becoming possible to get visas without too much hassle once again, but..... no, you can't read fatuous weblogs any more.
I wasn't even able to get access via FoxyProxy, which I have been relying on for some time now. I was anxiously contemplating having to experiment with new proxies (with all of the tiresome online research, the downloading and installing of widgets, the resetting of browser configurations, etc. that this can entail). However, this afternoon, we seem to be in business again.
I suspect it was just one of the lads down at Kafka Central playing with the switches again. It's easy to see how they might get bored and restive on the lonely weekend shift.
