Bon mot for the week

"The moment when you first wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the twenty-four hours. No matter how weary or dreary you may feel, you possess the certainty that, during the day that lies before you, absolutely anything may happen. And the fact that it practically always doesn't, matters not a jot. The possibility is always there."

Monica Baldwin (1893-1975) - a niece of the British Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, who spent 28 years in a nunnery.... and then came out to write a book about it, I Leap Over The Wall.

Reminds me of some quote I remember from somewhere, which runs along the lines of "I feel sorry for teetotallers. When they wake up, that is the best they are going to feel all day."

I have used that one over on The Barstool, Cowboy. It is traditionally attributed to Sinatra, though I've never seen it convincingly sourced.

hmm. I think this might be more a personal thing. I'm not convinced everyone has their feel-best moment first thing in the morning.

Maybe if you wake up at a sensible time, well rested.

I generally wake up and think, "Ugh, this is MUCH too early. Try to nap for another hour or two."

I have recently succumbed to 6 alarms. I tend to emerge on the third these days, but often forget to turn off the others, so when in the shower there is suddenly a blaring wail from one of them.

hmm. TBC's comment comforts me (i'm not the only nutcase with multiple alarms) but also concerns me (yikes! I'm not the only one who does this... this is not going to go away... the number of alarms I employ to awake me will only increase with time.)

and yah, getting out of bed and starting the day before all alarms have buzzed causes some frantic running around room half-dressed with toothbrush in hand, searching out the offending noise-maker.
