The Chairman strikes again!

Another Tony The Chairman's 'Gem of the Day'........

(In reference to 'Music & Lyrics', the film he gave me on DVD as a Christmas present)

Chairman: "Hugh Grant's wonderful in it. I really think he's underrated, you know. I think he's right up there with Cary Grant."

Me: "What? As one of the great one-dimensional actors, you mean?"

Chairman: "Well, yes. But that one dimension's got such depth to it."

Have you seen "Love Actually"

I love that movie and your favorite one-dimensional actor is in it.

With even fewer dimensions than usual.

I was fearing I might be forced back on that as a last-choice Christmassy rom-com to lift my spirits. Thank heavens for The Chairman's gift!

'Love, Actually' - I do not love it. It has many great moments in it, and it's very good at pressing the right buttons, but...... I think Richard Curtis peaked with 'The Tall Guy'.

Hugh Grant. My Good God. Froog, what on earth is wrong with you?

Froog said...

Some people say there is a resemblance between us.

I prefer to see myself as the Ewan McGregor type, but... Hugh Grant ain't bad.

I was once told with worrying earnestness by a Chinese guy here - a complete stranger, sat at the next table in a restaurant - that his wife thought I looked like Pierce Brosnan. Ha! I wish....

I presume I have told you about the time that a (drunk, but lets not spoil the story) woman in Nashville refused to accept I was not actually a particular movie star...

Froog said...

No, I don't think so. Now we have to guess which movie star!

Philip Seymour Hoffman??

Damn - got it in one...

Well, my second choice was going to be Donny Most.

Or maybe Timothy Busfield, the ginger guy from thirtysomething and The West Wing.

PSH definitely has the highest profile.

She was even in enough denial to try to convince me that my accent was me practicing for a new role.

Just so long as she didn't ask you to do your 'Truman Capote' voice for her!

I am assuming you did sleep with her?

Froog I am shocked. I have certain key rules, the first of which is that drunk is off limits...

Froog said...

Drunk - who? You or the girl?

You know, there's drunk and drunk. You can't always afford to be too dogmatic about these things.

"Actually, it's more of a guideline."

Harve has just revealed that his missus thinks I have a George Clooney-ish quality! I always liked her. Twinkle. Twinkle.

Froog said...

Of course, Georgie Boy is getting a little grey and paunchy now, isn't he? I hope that wasn't what J meant. No, I'm sure she was referencing an idealised, younger Clooney, from his 'ER' days, rather than the more recent, more run-down Clooney of, say, 'Syriana'.

Do. Not. Knock. Cary. Grant.

Pierce Brosnan is hot.

I can see Mr Brosnan's appeal. He's even growing old gracefully, sexily now, artfully allowing a little bit of grey to creep in around the temples.... and belatedly proving that he can even act a bit, in one-and-a-half dimensions, say.

I am a Cary Grant fan too. Multi-dimensionality is overrated.
