A work bon mot for the holiday week

"A man is not idle because he is absorbed in thought. There is a visible labour and there is an invisible labour."

Victor Hugo (1802-1885)

I'll have to try that one the next time I'm busted for lollygagging at the office. "I assure you I was labouring invisibly. Brain work, you know: analysing, planning, prioritising, strategising. Not blogging, really."

"lollygagging", I've never hear that expression before.

Yes, I am tireless champion of archaic slang.

By the way, FG, I am glad that you have finally begun commenting on here.

Watch out, though, for a jealous onslaught about 'first commenter' status from Tulsa when she returns from holiday!!

Oh, I like that one. I think it may have to become my motto.

Bonus points for use of "lollygagging," which reminds me of one of my all-time favorite movies.

Skip: You guys. You lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? ... Larry!
Larry: Lollygaggers!
Skip: Lollygaggers.

I don't recognise the quotation, OMG. Baseball films not really my thing - although I think I've seen all the well-known baseball films, and I don't recognise the character names from any of those. Enlighten us, please.

Or perhaps this is a job for The British Cowboy?

where has fg been that he/she doesn't know "lollygag"?

and i've finally caught up to this post where in froog warns fg about me.

lol. i can only laugh. as - in fact - I have already left comments inquiring into the identity of fg. though, hopefully, none of my comments were the least bit threatening or spurred by jealousy. more of a a curious, hmm, who is this person?

me, jealous? not the type. the more the merrier. more like I am curious, though...

shall i guess? is fg initials? is fg in beijing? is fg a best friend? is fg choirboy?

or am I totally off?

i should stop asking questions in such old posts. it only means I'll have to come searching for the answers... big sigh, all that energy, i guess my great (american) (asian) novel won't be written this week.
