James Michener (1907-1997)
A great line I happened upon while recently browsing the early chapters of Michener's novel of '60s counter-culture, The Drifters. It was the first thing of his I can remember looking at, and I was surprised at how well-written it was. Alas, like all of his things, it was a daunting great doorstop of a book - I fear I've never given him a try because his stories just exceed my attention span.

and froog, doorstop books can be worth a read. I've made my way through two this last month. I've not been blogging much, but i'm definitely enjoying being lost in these mega-books.
and i like the quote. it has the feel of a romantic comedy... reminds me of something I saw TCM... some great classic from the 50's of 60's. of course i can't name the name... you know i'm completely pop-culture-challenged. even if it's pop culture from the 60s.
BIG books scare me! I'm such a slow reader. If I'm ever going to read another one, it will be 'War & Peace'. I love Tolsoy, and it's been on my 'to do' list for 20-odd years....
