Have you noticed how....

..... mooncakes are appearing in the shops very early this year?

Mooncakes probably deserve a fuller, explanatory post at some point, but I don't have the time right now. Suffice to say that - as far as I know - they have no connection with "my publisher", the illustrious Moonrat.

I did notice that. apparently it's a christmas-in-july thingie. I noticed them first in June and thought surely I had misunderstood and that these cakes were meant for some other holiday... but no, mooncakes they are.

Are they big in Japan as well, Moonrat? I daresay they're quite nice there. Here in China, as with so much else, they're a bit crappy.

June, Tulsa, June???? That's just crazy! I saw some last week, and was wondering if Mid-Autumn Day (MAD?) was absurdly early this year. But no, apparently it's the end of September.

Yes, June. I gather they are like fruitcake - quite the shelf life.

Even Starbucks has their own version, in pretty swirly Starbucks colors.

There I was thinking you meant that Southern delight, Moon Pies.

To be washed down with RC Cola of course.

(Yet again proof there is a Simpson's quote for everything... Homer: We are working our butts off and these celebrities are living the high life, drinking Royal Crown Cola...)

from my childhood in Louisville Kentucky:

a Mom"Do you want a coke?"
kid "yeah, what kind?"
Mom "We've got RC and 7up"

(yeah, OK it's a "keenex" thing)

Aaah, the whirr of references flying far over my head!

'Royal Crown'? Never heard of it. Will have to seek it out on my next venture south of the Mason-Dixon. (Do they have it in DC??)

You can get it in some areas of DC, Froog...

I did not know Kentucky had the all soda = coke bug. I definitely saw that in Atlanta, for obvious reasons. Kentucky must be divided because Tennessee is torn up over this - some places call it all coke, some soda, others pop.

And Froog, I promise to buy you some moon pies and RC Cola next time you are over.

Oh, you spoil me, Cowboy.

I can feel myself getting fatter just thinking about it?

Whatever happened to Pennsylvania Lard Chips? Can you get those in DC too?

The British Cowboy said...

Lard chips are hard to find, though I think I may have to liberate some on my next trip up to Pennsyltucky.

A day in Nash Vegas next week so I can stock up on Goo Goo Clusters...
