Spoiled for choice

The other week, I was rueing the fact that my love life is stalled at the moment because there are so many women I am attracted to that I just can't make up my mind which one to pursue. These reflections prompted the following bon mot.

"One of the secrets of a happy dining experience is a short menu."

That assumes the menu is for a restaurant that serves cuisine you enjoy.

Sometimes, even when the choices are limited, nothing quite satisfies.

Do any of these many women have anything in common? Or are your tastes so varied that each is extremely different?

I wonder which scenario makes it more difficult to make a decision on who to pursue...

If I were interested in more than one man and couldn't decide, it would be because they each had qualities the other lacked. So, I would prefer to piece together my favorite elements, but realizing the impossibility of it, I'd be left contemplating which "missing quality" I could live without.

Yes, well, I don't go to restaurants where I know I'm not going to like the food! And I tend not to go to gay nightclubs.

Too much choice is bewildering, paralysing.

Not that I really have 'choices' on the romantic front: there are lots of women that I like currently, but some of them are not 'free', and none of them give any particular indication of liking me.

I'm starting to think it's the monastery for me! Very simple menu there.

sometimes you find yourself in a restaurant for reasons other than the food! I'd say that is predominantly the case for expat (particularly women) professionals in China! (though, thankfully, the food has gotten much better in the last 5 years.)

well, the Confucius Monastery just down the street from you is being renovated. The neighborhood is quite lovely. I'm sure if you apply now, while it is still under construction, you'll be able to reserve yourself a spot.
