With ironic, sinister symmetry, the celebrity artist/activist was incarcerated on the same day that my friend Wu Yuren was finally released from 10 months' detention.
Now, like Wu, he's been released on extremely restrictive 'bail' terms - but could face re-arrest at any moment. He was detained incommunicado from April 3rd to June 22nd 2011.

"Released on parole" after 10 months; "parole" lifted another year later. The original charges against him were apparently dropped without his trial ever being formally concluded.

I think he's in Nepal. That's rather a long way to go for dinner!
I don't know... dinner with a good friend can be well worth the distance traveled ;) [not to say we're friends.]
(But, it certainly wouldn't be the "first" time I've crossed a thousand miles to spend an evening conversing over a plate of fragrant rice.)
Reminds me of that song (the proclaimers?): I will walk 500 miles and I will walk 500 more to be that man who walks a thousand miles to fall down at your door...
And just think how good the food would be. mmmmm Nepalese food.
