One of my favourite grown-ups in Beijing is about to get on a plane and leave for good. Even worse, she is taking my very favouritest little girl in the whole world with her. I am glum, yes.
I much prefer the Peter, Paul, and Mary version of this song (it's up there alongside Mary Hopkin's Those Were The Days as one of the very first songs I can ever remember hearing on the radio) to John Denver's (although I gather he wrote it two or three years before they recorded it). However, this 1972 TV clip of him duetting with Mama Cass is an unexpected gem I've just unearthed on YouTube.
[I discover that jokey punk 'supergroup' Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do quite a fun version of it, too....]
